Gardening Club activities
Friends of St Mary's Flower Festival.
In May 2016 we were invited to take part in the Flower Festival held at St Mary's Church in Hartley Wintney. Gardening Club were asked to design a crown to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday. We decided that Mrs Checksfield would make a willow crown that the whole school could decorate.
During break times the children made daisy chains that were wound around the willow crown, the gardening club then finished off the decoration using flowers of red, white and blue. All flowers were British flowers grown by Mrs Checksfield. They looked beautiful and smelled even better.
We were thrilled to receive a letter from The Friends of St Mary's thanking us for taking part. Gardening club would like to thank all the children that helped make the daisy chains.
Planting out our plots
The Gardening Club have been busy planting out both vegetables and flowers in their plots. They are using the Square Foot Planting method of organising their plots. Watch this space as more things are planted and everything grows.
We have entered the "grow your own potatoes" competition organised by AHDB, and so on 8th March our gardening club were busy planting potatoes. Some were planted in sacks in our courtyard, and some were planted in the ground. We are looking forward to watching them all grow! We will harvest the potatoes on 14th June, weigh them and send our results to AHDB for comparison with potatoes from other school in the competition.
